| PCR-1: Para Count Rate Meter |
|
|
Count Rate Meter, model PCR-1 is a portable, battery operated instrument for measurement of radioactivity due to Gamma radiation. It is useful for sedimentation measurement carried out at sea shore. Model PCR-1 is intended to be used with NaI(Tl) detector with built-in preamaplifier and voltage divider resistance chain. NaI(Tl) detector is not part of PCR-1 and should be procured separately. Model PCR-1, though operates on 12 V DC, generates necessary supply voltages for the preamplifier and HV supply for the NaI(Tl) detector. PCR-1 provides display of count rate for various ranges from 103 to 106 CPM in 7 steps. Count Rate range is settable by the 8 way band switch. Large area analog meter with linear scale of 0 to 100, indicates the Count Rate continuously. A chirper output proportional to Count Rate is also provided. |
Model PCR-1 has two response time constants, 1 second or 5 seconds. Response time is switch selectable.
Model PCR-1 is housed in robustly constructed mechanical enclosure to provide immunity against mechanical shocks and water spillage. Critical controls are mounted inside the unit to protect it against unauthorized tampering.

6 Channel Dose Rate Meter / Averager system was designed, fabricated for AFFF unit of BARC at
Tarapur. This system uses 6 nos of thin walled GM tubes housed in a stainless steel Detector
Head. |
The Dose Rates as outputs are indicated on Digital Readout with 0 to 0.2 mR/Hr, 0 to 2.0
mR/Hr and 0 to 20 mR/Hr. These outputs are fed to the Averager which also has similar Digital Readout
and ranges. The back off or Tare adjust is provided for the Averager which enables user to cancel
the background. 4 nos of Dose Rate Meters are housed in one enclosure. The other enclosure
houses the remaining two Dose Rate Meters & the Averager unit.

Para Electronics has designed, fabricated & supplied 3 GM tubes based Beta Counting System. This system consists of special GM tubes housed in a Acrylic Block, Pulse Shaping Electronics, Common High Voltage Supply for GM tubes , 4 Digit Preset Timer and 8 digit Scaler with display. The technical specifications were provided by the customer and Para Electronics designed and supplied the system. The customer- Nuclear Physics Department of Mangalore University is using the system to monitor Neutron Radiation from the Accelerator supplied by Center for Advance Technology (CAT), Indore. |
This system works on Neutron Activation technique. The incident neutrons are moderated through
the 25 mm thick walls of the acrylic housing. The thin silver wall of the GM tube gets activated by the neutrons and emits Beta radiations after some time delay. The pulse output from each GM tube is processed to convert it in a TTL pulse. The TTL pulses from all 3 GM tube channels is OR-tied for counting. Hence scaler counts are the sum of all the counts from 3 GM tubes. This beta radiation is counted for a preset time. The GM Tube Assembly is kept in the Accelerator room while the Counting Unit is 10 metres away.
The system has following subsystems :
Thin Wall Beta-Gamma GM Tubes (3 Nos) Type 75527
Acrylic Housing for above GM tubes
3 Channel GM Counting System
1. Pulse Shaping Electronics
2. High Voltage Supply for GM Tubes
3. Scaler and Timer with display

In counting experiments, to shield the detectors from
background/ambient radiations, lead shields with/without tin, copper or aluminum lining are used.
Para Electronics has developed and supplied customer specific lead shield assemblies for Scintillation and other types of detectors. Shields for detector diameter 25 to 125 mm have been made with shield height ranging from 200 to 800 mm. Interleaved sections facilitate easy assembly at site.
